A table of the pricing for many of the top accounting system and ERP
solutions
Comparing the prices of
accounting software can be confusing. To help, we asked the top
accounting software publishers to provide us retail pricing for the cost
of eight core modules (general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts
payable, payroll, inventory, order entry, job costing, and system
manager) for 1 user, 5 users, 10 users, 25 users, and 100 users. The
results are presented below. Even with this approach there are
comparison problems. For example, some products include a report writer,
consolidations, and bank reconciliation in the general ledger for no
additional cost while others charge extra for this functionality. Still,
these prices offer a reasonable basis for comparison. |

Note 1- Pricing includes
the following modules: general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts
payable, payroll, inventory, order entry, job cost and system manager.
Note 2 - For
Dynamics.NAV (Formerly Navision),
the regular pricing assumes that customers with 10 or less users would not purchase
consolidations, budgeting, or allocations granules; customers with 25 users
would add budgeting and allocations; and 100 users would add consolidations.
Multi-language and multi-currency capabilities are not included in these
price estimates.
Note 3 - It is
interesting to notice that the least expensive products at one user or five
users are not necessarily the least expensive products at 10 or 25 users.
This is because some vendors price their modules higher, and their
incremental user licenses lower while other vendors employ the opposite
strategy. Please note that a few products do not offer job cost modules. In
this case we have included the price for an additional inventory module
instead - to arrive at a more relevant pricing comparison that includes 8
core modules across the board. In the case of SAP's R/3 software, the price
includes the complete SAP product line - not just 8 core modules. ACCPAC
discovery provides for a maximum of 3 users, but not 5 users. Peachtree,
QuickBooks Pro 2002 and others include more than 8 modules in their standard
price.

QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions is available in 5, 10, 15, and 20 user
license editions.
3- QuickBooks Online Edition PLUS is
available in 3, 10, and 20 user license editions.
4- Sage BusinessVision
Accounting pricing
includes 16 to 18 modules as well as Crystal report designer and comes in a
30 user edition rather than 25.
5- Blackbaud is a
non-profit solution which does not include Inventory, Order Entry, or Job
costing; therefore, I substituted these modules with the Blackbaud's Cash
Management, Fixed Assets, and POS modules. In general, Blackbaud is priced
from $2,000 to $4,000 for core modules, with the general ledger and POS
pricing ranging from $2,000 to $20,000 depending on the number of users.
6- In addition to the
prices as listed,
Sage products call for 18% annual maintenance, required to paid in the
first year.
8- SYSPRO pricing actually breaks down as
follows: 1-4 users = $12,100, 5-8 users = $14,400, 9-12 users = $16,800,
13-16 users = $19,200, 17-24 users = $24,000, 25-32 users = $29,600, and
some modules require the installation of others.

TakeStock does not offer Job Costing
and Payroll modules.
10- TRAVERSE pricing for 1 and 5 users
includes 1st year maintenance, but 10 and 25 user systems require an
additional 15% for 1st year maintenance.
